Originating in Ireland, the Kerry Blue Terrier became a member of the AKC Terrier Group in 1924. Kerry Blue Terriers are cousins of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and the Irish Terrier. Kerry Blues are born black. The immature black coat begins to change to “blue” at about two years of age. This process is usually complete by four years of age. A small white patch on the chest is permissible.

The Kerry Blue was bred to rid farms of rats, rabbits and badgers. Today the Kerry usually finds himself living a pampered life alongside his active owner. This breed began in a country surrounded by the sea, and bursting with many rivers and lakes; therefore, loves the water and is an excellent water retriever.

The Kerry Blue is one of the hardiest of purebred dogs. Breed standards specify the ideal height as 18-19 inches at the shoulder and weighing in at about 35 pounds. The soft silky coat does not shed.

Kerry Blue Terriers are highly trainable. A vast majority of breeders feel that males are more responsive and easier to manage than their female counterparts who can be hormonal and moody. Kerry Blue Terriers have a life expectancy of 13-15 years.

Brought over directly from the country of origin, our Kerry Blue Terriers were born in Ireland. We are eager to have one become a part of your family. Our Kerry Blue Terriers are all young and are starting to gain their "blue" appearance. They meet the standards set forth by the Irish Kennel Club (IKC) and the American Kennel Club (AKC) therefore carry registrations from both countries. We are proud of their linage and breed for temperament. All puppies are current on wormings and vaccinations.
